Tuesday Afternoon - Sacred Smoke: Craft Your Own Healing Smudge Stick with Ali Hutchinson

Sacred Smoke: Craft Your Own Healing Smudge Stick with Ali Hutchinson

Join me, Ali Hutchinson, for a mindful, creative workshop where we’ll explore the ancient art of smudging and craft our own beautiful, aromatic smudge sticks using a blend of healing herbs and flowers.

The History of Smudging Smudging is a sacred practice rooted in many Indigenous cultures around the world, particularly among Native American and First Nations peoples. It involves burning bundles of dried herbs to purify energy, cleanse spaces, and invite positive intentions. The rising smoke is believed to carry prayers, clear negativity, and create a sense of peace and balance.

Why Use Native Plants? We’ll honour this tradition by using native plants and locally foraged herbs that connect us to the land we live on. Each plant carries its own energy and healing properties, enhancing the intention behind the smudging ritual.

Healing Properties of Common Smudging Herbs:

  • Sage: Known as a powerful cleanser, sage is traditionally used to clear stagnant or negative energy. It’s believed to promote wisdom, clarity, and spiritual strength.

  • Lavender: Calming and soothing, lavender invites peace, relaxation, and emotional balance. Its gentle aroma is also known to ease anxiety and promote restful sleep.

  • Roses: Symbolising love and compassion, rose petals bring a heart-centered energy to your smudge stick, supporting self-love and emotional healing.

What to Expect: In this hands-on workshop, you’ll mindfully select and bundle your chosen herbs, learning the art of wrapping and drying your smudge sticks. We’ll also set personal intentions, infusing each creation with purpose and positivity.

Whether you’re new to smudging or wish to deepen your practice, this is a beautiful opportunity to connect with nature, create something meaningful, and carry a little handmade magic home with you.

Let’s gather in circle, tap into the wisdom of the earth, and weave together herbs, intention, and creativity.
