Wednesday Afternoon - How does the Teenage brain function with Nicola Parkinson

How does the Teenage brain function with Nicola Parkinson

How does a teenage brain function from 12 years upwards.

I have been given the opportunity to come on the mindfulness week to talk about children’s brain development and positive coping techniques for our children’s ever-increasing stress and anxiety. This world around us today has become very fast, busy and over stimulating and this has consequences on young minds. In my life I have been lucky enough to study a lot into this from both a personal and professional viewpoint and will talk to you today about anxiety symptoms and what to do about them that teaches our children a lifelong skill.

I work with parents and children to help everyone understand what has gone wrong in the brain when emotional dysregulation occurs, and the behaviour of the child is not so healthy for them and everyone around them. I am not a counsellor as many people mistake or a psychotherapist, but I am a CBT coach and positive mindset coach. If your child has mild- moderate emotional issues, then I can help and anything more severe I can direct you to a more developed practitioner.

Today in the session I am going to talk to you about the developing brain and the stages it goes through, the effect that technology has on the brain and how we begin to help ourselves and our youngsters emotionally regulate and calm down from stress and anxiety. These are easy techniques you can put into place with a full demonstration and a small kit to take home with you so you can begin to change bad habits into good habits. Come along to this workshop to discover the world of positive emotional coping techniques. This session is for both teenager and caregiver and equipment is included for you to take home to help your teen manage their anxiety, anger and any other uncomfortable emotions and why these techniques will benefit everyone. The pack includes a stretch band 2 balloons to get your stress dumping kit started. The aim of the session is to help the teenager and caregiver understand what needs to happen when their mind is full of negative adrenalin producing anxiety and stress. In a world full of stress and self-harming we need to understand now more than ever why our young adult brains are so overwhelmed and unable to cope and how to regulate emotions quickly to prevent a spiralling problem.

Please include 1 caregiver and 1 child as a single booking. If you are bringing 2 children you would book 2 tickets etc
